Several players chipped in. Mark DeRosa increased his Wrigley hitting streak to 15 games in Wednesday night's 19-5 victory over the Brewers to close out April. Geovany Soto hit five of his eight April homers at home. Derrek Lee ended April with a six-game home hitting streak.
The Cubs scored seven runs in each of their last six April home games. That ties the home record for scoring seven runs in a game since the Cubs moved into Wrigley in 1916. They also accomplished it in 1923 and 1929.
Overall, the weather was better in April, and that could have contributed to Cubs hitters feeling more comfortable at the plate.
BREWERS 4, CUBS 3: Kerry Wood blew his third save of the season as he allowed three runs in the ninth inning, and the Brewers rallied from a 3-1 deficit. Wood didn't get much help from left fielder Alfonso Soriano or right fielder Kosuke Fukudome, both of whom allowed flyballs to sail over their heads in the ninth. It was Soriano's first game back from the disabled list. Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano turned in a quality start, pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up seven hits and one run.
