Chicago Cubs Notes, Quotes 2009-04-18
--RHP Carlos Marmol closed in place of Kevin Gregg. Manager Lou Piniella said Marmol was warming up in the eighth inning and that's why he went to him. Marmol has two saves and an 0.00 ERA. Gregg has one save and an ERA of 9.00. Piniella says Gregg still is the closer but that there will be save opportunities for both late-inning men.

--RF Milton Bradley went a second straight day without commenting on his ejection from Thursday's game. Bradley was tossed by plate umpire Larry Vanover for arguing a called third strike. The Cubs say they have not heard whether Major League Baseball will suspend Bradley for possibly making contact with Vanover. Bradley still has not started since Sunday because of a strained right groin.

--LHP Ted Lilly has taken no-hitters into the seventh inning in three of his last five starts. In addition to Monday, Lilly did it twice last September. Lilly retired 20 of the first 21 Rockies he faced.

BY THE NUMBERS: 250 -- With a stolen base Sunday, LF Alfonso Soriano became the 19th player in big league history to have at least 250 steals and 250 homers for his career. He joined former Cubs Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandberg on the 250-250 list.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Just can't do it. You're going to lose. Get the ball over the plate, and make the other team beat you. Period." -- Manager Lou Piniella, on his relievers walking five batters in a 4-3 loss at Milwaukee on April 10.
