Chicago Cubs Notes, Quotes 2009-04-25
--OF Milton Bradley did not start again, but he did pinch-hit and walk in the ninth inning. Bradley has been hobbled since April 12 with a right-groin strain, and manager Lou Piniella says he won't play Bradley until he's 100 percent. After walking, Bradley came out for a pinch runner.

--LF Alfonso Soriano batted third for the first time since May 20, 2007. He began last year as the No. 2 hitter in the order, but that experiment was abandoned after two games.

--Kosuke Fukudome moved from center field to right, and Reed Johnson started at center as manager Lou Piniella went for better defense. The lineup casualty was Micah Hoffpauir, who committed an error in right Thursday against the Reds. Fukudome's single in the fourth gave him a streak of 13 games in which he has reached base.

BY THE NUMBERS: 7 -- Cubs batters had walked at least four times in a game seven times this season entering the week. That should come as no surprise. The Cubs led the NL in walks and on-base percentage last year. Kosuke Fukudome was leading the way with nine walks, with Mike Fontenot and Alfonso Soriano each having eight.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Tony's not the commissioner. He's a good friend and a heck of a manager, but he's not the commissioner of baseball -- not yet anyway." -- Manager Lou Piniella on Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, who wondered why the Cubs got away with criticizing umpires.
