--The Cubs stole six bases Tuesday night, two for CF Reed Johnson and one apiece for LF Alfonso Soriano, SS Ryan Theriot, 2B Ronny Cedeno and PH Mike Fontenot. It marked the first time the Cubs had swiped six in a game since May 14, 2000, at Montreal. Eric Young had five steals that day, and Shane Andrews had one.
--LF Alfonso Soriano is batting .331 (44-for-133) with 12 homers and 34 RBIs in 32 games since coming of the disabled list May 1.
--SS Ryan Theriot had two of the Cubs' four hits against San Diego pitching Wednesday night in a 2-1 loss. That gave Theriot 24 multi-hit games. He entered Wednesday behind Chipper Jones, Chase Utley and Lance Berkman in that category in the NL.
--CF Jim Edmonds saw his three-game hitting streak snapped Wednesday as he went 0-for-3 in the 2-1 loss at San Diego. 1B Derrek Lee had a five-game hitting streak snapped, as did 3B Aramis Ramirez.
--"These kids are playing good baseball and they're swinging the bats and they're aggressive," manager Lou Piniella said of his team Wednesday. He also said that the Cubs needed to "just try to cut down some of our walks from a few of our pitchers."
BY THE NUMBERS: 1908 -- All Cubs fans know this is the year their team last won the World Series. This year's Cubs had the best record in baseball (35-21) on June 1. That's the first time they've done that since... 1908.
