--In addition to hitting a go-ahead homer in the seventh inning, LF Alfonso Soriano drew his 30th walk of the season in the first inning. Soriano walked 31 times last year in 135 games. His 30th walk Friday came in his 86th game. Cubs batters have walked in 37 consecutive games. They lead the NL with 547 walks.
--RHP Rich Harden recorded his 167th strikeout of the season (including his time in Oakland). That ties his single-season best, set in 2004 with the A's. --RHP Jeff Samardzija earned his first major league win with 1 1/3 innings of relief work. He also extended his scoreless-innings streak to 13 2/3.
--SS Ryan Theriot was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Theriot is 3-for-18 over his last five games and might get a day off Saturday or Sunday.
--RHP Carlos Marmol struck out three in 1 2/3 innings. That gave him 100 strikeouts for the season in 74 2/3 innings. He became the 10th Cubs reliever since 1956 to strike out at least 100 in a season.
BY THE NUMBERS: 650 -- The Cubs' single-season record for walks drawn by their batters in a season, set in 1975. The Cubs are on pace to break that record by two this year. It's a far cry from recent Cubs teams, including last year, when they finished 15th in the NL with 500 walks.
