Cubszone.com | Chicago Cubs News, cubs Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - TODAY'S ISSUE: WILL Milton Bradley BE A GOOD FIT FOR THE Cubs?
Well, Dan, the Cubs signed Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30 million deal. He has had decent years, but last season in Texas he had the year he needed to cash in. He batted .321, had a .436 on-base percentage and a .563 slugging percentage. A career year, no doubt.
Now, would anybody be willing to bet he could do that again? I say it won't happen again. Hey, he isn't going to lead anyone to the promised land any time soon.
And I must acknowledge some of his history. Bradley at times has been a distraction to his team, teammates, management and the fans. He has had run-ins with Major League Baseball. His fielding would have to be considered average at best. And in the American League, he did not play the field much. Last year, he played the outfield 20 times and made three errors.
How many Cubs fans ever uttered the words, ''Hey, we have to get Milton Bradley''? How many fans of teams he has played for have said, ''Hey, we have to get rid of Milton Bradley''?
Now, Dan, I'm a Sox fan, as you know. But my other interest is the Cubs, and last year it was fun to have two teams in the playoffs. I know I wouldn't want him on the White Sox because we already have a DH. The game is played between the lines, but championships begin in the locker room or the clubhouse. I just don't think he is a good fit. I hope I'm wrong, but history tells me, ''I'm right!''
